Recently, Kenya's "The Nation" published a commentary article by Kenya's international studies scholar Adhil Kevens. The article said that China has continuously piloted China-Africa relations through the mechanism of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, which began in 2000, and has brought fruitful results to Africa's development. The gathering of Chinese and African leaders at the Beijing Summit will open up a new path for the development of China-Africa relations and practical cooperation, and Kenya, as one of Africa's major economies, will benefit from it.

Focac has become an important platform for dialogue and exchange between African and Chinese leaders, aiming to bring lasting economic development results to both sides. Previous forums have seen African countries receive commitments from China for development support, including funding for infrastructure development, trade facilitation, construction services, investment, and cultural exchange projects. Under the Belt and Road Initiative, Chinese companies are also building rail, road, port, energy, water, agriculture, health and digital connectivity projects in Africa, diversifying their economies and exports. According to China's Ministry of Commerce, China's stock of direct investment in Africa reached $40 billion in 2023, making it the continent's largest source of foreign direct investment. In terms of trade, China overtook the United States in 2009 to become Africa's largest trading partner, with a total trade volume of $282 billion in 2023, according to the International Monetary Fund. Currently, more than 20 percent of Africa's exports go to China, while 16 percent of the continent's imports come from the Chinese market.

From various people-to-people exchanges between China and Africa over the years, it can be seen that China's efforts to consolidate relations with Africa have won hearts and minds. According to a recent Gallup poll, China has overtaken the United States as the most influential non-regional power in Africa. China's support in Africa increased by 6 percentage points, from 52 percent in 2022 to 58 percent in 2023. In the United States, support fell from 59 percent in 2022 to 56 percent last year.

The article stressed that Africa should use the summit to put forward practical proposals on cooperation with China to promote socio-economic transformation through industrialization, trade, agricultural productivity, green energy transition, personnel training and civilizational friendship. For example, in terms of climate change mitigation and adaptation, China is the largest source of the technologies needed to develop green energy, while Africa is rich in renewable energy sources such as solar, wind and key minerals. The same is true of trade and industrialization. China has the largest consumer market in the world, and Africa is now the largest free trade area after the World Trade Organization.
